Kenya Power has announced planned electricity outages in four counties on Tuesday, June 16, as the utility company undertakes routine maintenance on its power distribution network.
In a public notice issued on Monday, the company said the scheduled interruptions will affect parts of Nairobi, Uasin Gishu, Kisii and Kwale counties, with some customers expected to remain without electricity for up to eight hours.
The maintenance works are part of ongoing efforts to improve service reliability and support the operation of the national electricity grid.
Nairobi customers to face day-long interruptions
In Nairobi County, the outages will affect sections of Mwiki and Spring Valley between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Areas scheduled for interruption in Mwiki include Mwiki, Maili Saba, Silanga and neighbouring customers.
A separate outage will affect sections of Spring Valley, including Thigiri Ridge Road, Thigiri Close, Thigiri Crescent, Thigiri Gardens, Durham International School and surrounding areas.
Businesses, schools and households in the affected locations have been advised to make alternative arrangements during the maintenance period.
Uasin Gishu areas among those affected
In Uasin Gishu County, electricity supply will be interrupted in the Testimony School and Haven Stay areas from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Customers expected to experience the outage include Testimony School, Haven Stay and nearby consumers.
Another planned interruption will affect Kabongo and Cheplaskei from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The outage will impact Kabongo, Outspan, Ancila, Rehema, Small Town, Cheplaskei, Plateau Station, Kipchamo, Oxplus, Ngeria Junction and adjacent customers.
Kisii and Kwale counties also listed
In Kisii County, residents and businesses in Nyangweta, Etago and Ekona will experience power interruptions between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
The affected areas include Kenyenya Primary School, Nyangweta SDA Secondary School, Etago Market, Nyansembe, Nyakeyo, Suguta, Moticho, Engou, Nyabera, Nyamaiya, Ekona, Mogenda, Ochodororo, Maroon and neighbouring customers.
Meanwhile, in Kwale County, the outage will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in parts of Mwambungo and Muhaka.
Areas expected to be affected include Mwambungo, Muhaka, Zigira, Mvindeni, Romika, Kona Musa Ratinga, Msikiti Nure, Ibiza, Mwamanga, Jorori, Posta, Diani Police and surrounding customers.
Residents advised to prepare
Kenya Power regularly schedules maintenance works to facilitate network upgrades, repair infrastructure and connect new customers to the grid.
The utility company has urged customers in the affected areas to plan ahead and take necessary precautions during the interruption period.
Residents and businesses are also encouraged to treat all power lines as live during the maintenance exercise, as electricity may be restored earlier than the scheduled time once works are completed.
The planned outages come as Kenya Power continues efforts to strengthen electricity distribution and improve service delivery across the country.
